Background

Coveney Nicholls is a long standing firm that has not stood still. Established over 60 years ago in Croydon, Jeff and John both did their training at the firm in the early 80’s before going their separate ways post qualification, Jeff to Deloittes and John to Touche Ross, only to work together again some years later at Price Waterhouse in Redhill.

The early 90’s was a period of financial turbulence and following the tragic death of Graham Nicholls, Jeff and John decided to leave and bring the skills and knowledge gained in a Big Four environment and combine them with the best aspects of a small firm; personal service, continuity and flexibility, where the client is the focus of attention, from a new base in Reigate.

Through a combination of acquisition and maintaining strong links with colleagues in the Big Four, they have grown the firm and expanded its activity in mergers and acquisitions work, and in 1999 established a specialist practice as Specialist Medical Accountants  through the acquisition from Deloitte’s of its medical services division in Gatwick. A key factor in the success of this acquisition was the transfer of Sue Beaton, who has continued to develop the practice in the years since, doubling its original size.

Although the firm has grown and changed it is still focused on its core values of personal service and professional excellence. We had to make a key decision in how to position the firm’ whether to continue to grow, adding layer upon layer of administration and removing ourselves from day to day involvement or do it our own way. Our clients know what works for them.

Matthew Bennett joined us from Menzies and following qualification in 2005 has been appointed a Director. Matthew is helping Sue to develop and service the Medical practice and to support Jeff and John in key audit assignments.
